I had a flibberty-gibbet the other night the kind of thing that makes your companion want to take you to the hospital and tell you later, It was like you disappeared. There was no one inside. Mind you, there was plenty of activity: renting of garments, flagellation and an attraction to razor blades. But the Liz of the present was gone.
What prompted my meltdown was that I moved to a new place, alone, thereby disrupting my routine, my solid relationship, my daily contact with my hamster I could go on. The only positive is that my dog and I are back together after a long time apart, and I can now talk to her all the time. Like, So Hannah, should we call Comcast and yell at them for completely messing up our account? Or will we have to cancel altogether, despite their monopoly? Then she lifts her lazy head from her pillow and looks at me as if to say, m sorry were having so much TV trouble. I, for one, would really like to watch Animal Planet. (Shes pictured here yelling at me for putting her in a fishermans sweater.)
So its a big adjustment. I havent lived alone since 2000 or 2001. Wowza. Having time to myself, without TV, just encourages me to think sad thoughts. The difference between being crazy in the old days and being crazy now is that it gets under control at some point usually when I take the Seroquel and the world comes back into focus. Say what you will about that drug, but Lordy, it sure works for my psychotic episodes.
Forgive me, then, for posting less regularly right now.

It depends, I suppose, what you imagine New Labour was. If you mean the media-manipulating, bullying, authoritarian bulldozer, then it is still very much alive, and probably worse than ever. If you mean the party of big business, of cosy deals with international financiers, of yacht-based diplomacy - well, I'm willing to bet that's still going strong too. Vast sums of money have been given to the bankers, most of whom will not be forgoing their bonuses. If you mean the prudent party of low taxation, conservative economics and the free market that Tony Blair successfully sold to a befuddled electorate in 1997 and twice thereafter - that is dead, yes, but only because it never actually lived. It was a mirage, which disguised the profligate reality of vast public waste, the multiplication of non-jobs, the stealth taxes which destroyed Britain's pensions, the ratcheting up of duties, the creative accountancy of private finance initiatives, the feather-bedding of parasitical quangocrats.

What has changed with Alistair Darling's statement yesterday? The reality has not changed: yes, there is more borrowing, much more. Some of it is unavoidable, some of it - bringing forward capital projects to ease the shock to the labour market - may turn out to be beneficial, some of it, such as the VAT cut, will have little effect of total spending (though it may help some retailers survive the recession). But all of it is a continuation of the last eight years. It represents a foot placed on the accelerator, perhaps a shifting of gear - but certainly not a handbrake turn. The direction of travel remains the same. Perhaps the chancellor's most telling comment was the hope to return - perhaps as early as 2016 - to "borrowing to invest". No talk of budgets one day being balanced, no suggestion that any part of the massive national debt will be paid off in due course.

If anything, yesterday's statement was rather more conservative than the spending splurge that it brings to an end. The national debt might be set to double, but spending will be squeezed. Except in language, this scarcely represents a repudiation of the New Labour years and a return to Keynesian economics. But here's the paradox: the language of "prudence" coincided with years of financial irresponsibility; ditching that language is now to accompany a programme that, while not exactly prudent, is not incontinent either; it serves to make the government appear to be doing more than it really is.

We have been living, these past few years, in a very strange world of mirrors, in which the government has managed to convince many people - well, commentators mainly - who really ought to know better that it was something different from what it actually was. By speaking a conservative-inflected language, it persuaded conservatives (and even some Conservatives) that its aims and methods were conservative. And by sidelining traditional socialists it told them that they were internal exiles. But their disgruntlement was part of the story. Thus the holding of the higher rate of income tax to 40% - however little this mattered when set against the manipulation of National Insurance - sufficiently annoyed left-wingers that it made New Labour appear to be a continuation of Thatcherism by other means. Now, the introduction of a new tax band of 45% cheers the Polly Toynbees by letting them imagine the government now hates the rich. That, too, is an illusion: the money raised, after all, will be, when set against the total debt, negligible. But it "sends a message".

By occupying the centre ground, New Labour implied that the centre was a fixed point - while in reality it was a floating island tacking violently to the left. By emphasising prudence, it disguised prodigality. Even as the state remorselessly extended its domain - and the number of its employees - it cultivated the idea of frugality. Tony Blair looked and sounded like a right-winger when he was actually a statist authoritarian. Gordon Brown looked - and so was accounted - cautious and trustworthy. As a spectacle of legerdemain, New Labour was unprecedented. Today, as the mask slips and Labour politicians show themselves - because it now seems expedient to do so - in their true tax, borrow and spend colours, the talk of the return of Old Labour reveals just how much some people were - still are - taken in by the myth of New Labour.

Yet just a few weeks ago it was not the ditching, but the resurrection, of New Labour that was the talk of the town. The old rogue Mandelson, returned to the bosom of his old department of state, was once more thrilling reporters. Tony Blair himself, it was none too subtly leaked, had advised Mandy to accept Gordon's offer. The other old rogue Alastair Campbell is now once more offering his advice - though from a position of (very) comfortable independence. Derek Draper - Derek Draper, for heaven's sake, a man recently seen on TV declining a snack dipped in a breastmilk sourcream sauce - has been getting in on the act. The talk then was of the old troupers burying their past disagreements, throwing in their lot with Gordon Brown.

Viagra's swift blessing have lead the U of A researchers to stir up doctors to contemplate the drug when a generous has a failing matched ventricle of the heart, a dire corollary for which here be at the moment no coverage at your disposal.

"There are a signs of medical stipulations in both offspring and adults for which there be a necessitate to boost the working of the right ventricle, and this drug can be clinically and rapidly useful to support these patients," said Dr. Jayan Nagendran, a cardiac surgery resident at the U of A and the height original versifier of the level day by day.

Phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors allow the arteries to ease up for that apology that blood can travel more glibly.

Michelakis noted that this can be the first example of a drug that can improve the function of the right ventricle (which is diseased in pulmonary hypertension), lacking affecting the left ventricle (which is normal in pulmonary hypertension).

"This selectivity is important and has aim clinical connotation," Michelakis added. Switching from Lexapro to Remeron

  • Oct. 30th, 2008 at 11:25 PM

of 1975, and his birth was the result of his mother Karen Zerby’s act of “Flirty Fishing”.  “Flirty Fishing” was considered prostitution for God by David Berg and his followers.
During their time as members of the Children of God women would flirt with men and eventually have sex with them in order to bring in new members as well as funds for the cult.  David Berg was the head leader of Children of God, and he and Karen Zerby were wed which led to Berg’s adoption of Rodriguez’s as his son.  Berg and Zerby considered Rodriguez a prince; the up and coming leader of the Children and God.  Because of this Ricky experienced extensive sexual abuse during his time as a member of the Children of God, and mentions Berg and Zerby as his 2 main abusers.
Berg and Zerby made Rodriguez the example or poster boy for their followers and by doing so subjected him to extensive sexual abuse, indoctrination, and monitoring.  Rodriguez’s upbringing was documented so extensively that it was publicized as a childcare model for all parents in the Children of God.  These publications included at least a dozen depicting Rodriguez engaged in sexual activity, and the publications were included in a 762 page childcare manual.  This book was later destroyed in the 90s and was reprinted in an altered form.
Rodriguez left the Children of God in 2001 which was renamed The Family International by then, and in January of 2005, arranged a meeting with a friend of Zerby’s who was involved with the sexual abuse he experienced during his childhood.  The friend’s name was Angela Smith, and upon meeting Smith, Rodriguez stabbed her to death.  Rodriguez then drove to Blythe, California where he committed suicide by gunshot.  Rodriguez had never committed such an act of violence before; something so brutal and out of the ordinary.

Before murdering Smith and committing suicide, Rodriguez recorded video footage of himself presenting his weapons while explaining the suffering he experienced, the deep bitterness and emptiness he felt, and his final intentions in life.  The saddest thing about the whole thing was Rodriguez’s reason for his crime and suicide, and I say this because in some aspects he had no choice.  I’m sure many people disagree with my opinion, but think about what Rodriguez went through during his time as a member of the Children of God cult.
Rodriguez even mentions he was deprived of receiving more then a seventh grade education and real job skills in his letters to his mother Karen Zerby.  It’s a little obvious that Berg and Zerby mocked the Lord’s good word by brainwashing their members.  In Rodriguez’s video he claims he saw himself as a vigilante; someone that not only sought revenge, but someone who also sought justice for his own misfortunes as well as those of children like him.  In Rodriguez’s video he states:

s this need that I have; its not a want.  Its a need for revenge. Its a need for justice, because I cant go on like this.

Rodriguez claims that his act of murder wasn’t something he wanted to do, but something he needed to do as if it was the only way to put out a burning flame inside of him.  Now I can sit her say those are the words of someone who has completely lost it, but the thing is why did he lose it?  Better yet, how did he even last as long as he did after experiencing the complete and utter horror he did?

I’m not over exaggerating when I say “complete and utter horror”.  Sexual intercourse is not something a child is supposed to see let alone experience, and consistently throughout the majority of his life?!
Again I say; how did he last as long as he did.

But Research Dude (RD) assured me that they use recycled paper, so I guess I don't have to worry about the impact this study has on my carbon footprint just yet. ;-)

I got to find all this out because apparently I answer questions more quickly than RD expected, and had a bunch of time to kill before the Nurse was ready to see me. So we chatted akwardly for bit, he sent me out to the waiting room again, and then brought me back in to chat awkardly for another 5 minutes before the nurse finally came and got me.

Apparently the Lexapro isn't helping as much (or at all really) as they like to see in the first week, so Nurse asked me if I wanted to go from my 10mg to a higher dose. However, she recommended since I am experiencing nausea and exhaustaion (a side effect they call "sedation" lol...both of which should taper off the longer I take the drug) to wait a week and then raise the dose so as to prevent having further side effects. So that is what I am doing.

The worst part of the whole process is coming into the clinic and leaving. It's located in one part of a big medical complex, and the suite it is in is clearly marked "psyciatric services" right across from the reception desk for the "breast health" center. So the ladies who see breast cancer patients all day watch me walk into the "psychiatric services" suite, as do any business suited guys who happen to be walking down the hall from some other part of the building. So I enter the waiting room, which may or may not have a variety of people in various stages of distress in it. I tell the receptionist I'm here for a research appointment, whe validates my parking ticket, and I am sent back to a different, more tiny, waiting room. Last week I got to hear a girl have a half whispered breakdown while her mother tried to comfort her.

After the whole process is over I take the walk to the patient exit. All of the questions I have been asked replay in my mind, and I start thinking about why I am there, why I'm depressed, and what it has done to me. Part of me feels like I don't belong here, with the sobbing and the sedated, while another part of me knows all too well that I need this. It starts welling up, and I get to fight with it all the way home to regain some kind of "normal."

God, I hope that part gets better.
