I originally spoke with Heather Guidone the CEC coordinator. She was very kind, compassionate and told me to send my records to Dr Albee and Sinervo for a free record review. I finally did and Dr Sinervo contacted me July 29th I was originally scheduled for a total abdominal hysterectomy and hernia repair on the 4th with my gynecologist here. When I spoke to Dr Sinervo we talked for over an hour. We really clicked and I felt at total ease speaking with him. He explained everything in detail and he understood my pain I have been suffering since I was 14 years old. He told me it wasnt in my head and that he would do his best to fix me and help me lead a pain free life. He told me my last ultrasound had showed an abnormal bladder wall and that a bladder resection would be needed. The plan was to excise all endo, take down any adhesions and scar tissue, test for interstitial cystitis and then the bladder resection. He told me their surgery dates were about 6-8 weeks out and he would have the surgery coordinator get a date set and call me.

Monday August 4th I was contacted by Muriel with a surgery date of August 21. I was nervous that the date was so soon. I spoke with Muriel and she was so very helpful.
During the course of the 3 weeks Heather was so supportive. She would answer my questions, email and call me. She made me feel as though I was their only patient and would answer my questions with her personal experiences as well which I was very thankful for!

On August 20, 2008 My friend Trisa and I left for Atlanta at 3am. Around 1030am we finally arrived. The traffic was unreal. Our first destination was the office of Dr Scott Miller the urologist who would be assisting Dr Sinervo with the bladder resection. His staff was so kind and Dr Miller was so down to earth. He joked with us as well as sat down and answered any questions we had even though he had a patient waiting on him for surgery. He made us feel at ease and answered all our questions in understanding manner. He explained the risks, benefits etc. We left his office and headed to Northside Hospital to handle all preop information.

The staff of Northside were very friendly we got everything ready for surgery day and headed to get lunch. We grabbed Arby's and headed to the CEC.

We walked in to Dr Sinervo's waiting room and the staff at the desk were so welcoming. By this time Trisa and I were exhausted and it took every bit of concentration I could muster to fill out the forms we joked that we were tired and Dr S. was behind the front desk He announced well you will sleep good tomorow!! The staff offered us blankets to take a nap on the couch. Which I was very impressed with. Trisha the nurse immediately called me back and did the usual gyn visit stuff weight, blood pressure, pulse, the famous pee cup. She then took me to Dr S office and I met the famous Dr Sinervo. We talked about me, my problems i had been having, my previous treatments, about endo and lupron. I told him about my reaction to lupron and how I refused to ever take another shot of lupron. I knew I had made the right choice driving to atlanta when He told me his goal was to have lupron pulled off the market by the time he retired in 20 years. I was then taken in to an exam room and Dr S came in shortly after. He did a pelvic exam explained in detail what his opinions on what would be needed to be done tomorow and told me he would see me in the morning. I then met with Jean and she went over all the paperwork that needed to be signed, the lovely bowel prep and answered any questions we had.

We went back to the hotel to start the prep, and to get some much needed rest. The next morning we had to be at the hospital at 530am. We arrived at northside and the whole experience was much different than any other surgery I have had done. I was taken to the holding area where they started a iv, and I spoke with anesthesia. They gave me some loopy meds and off we went to the OR. The OR nurses Betsy and the other name escapes me were so fantastic. Dr Sinervo and Yeung the newest CEC associate came in and Dr Yeung introduced himself. Dr Sinervo held my hand and asked if I had any other questions. So I told him no and lets get this show on the road. I was ready to feel better! So he held my hand and said a prayer asking for the skill to treat my pain and help me feel better. He then held my hand until the anesthesia kicked in and next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery.

I awoke very nauseated and ended up dry heaving some. The first nurse was a real pain. She kept telling me I wouldnt vomit because they had given me meds and I had a nausea patch. I ended up dry heaving and I was in severe pain. The new nurse came and gave me benadryl because I had a reaction to a med (later found out it was from morphine) They later rolled me to the extended recovery room. I had a pca dilaudid pump which helped a ton. That night I was able to get up and walk and the nursing staff was fantastic. the next morning we tried percocet and it didnt help at all so they tried morphine. it helped alot. Dr Yeung came in around noon and told me I could go home. He went over what was found and explained some of the pictures to me. We left around 130. I was released with morphine ER and IR. We made the trip home and stopped several times to walk, and then stopped for cracker barrel outside of fort deposit. I ended up sleeping the rest of the way home until we hit bay minette exit.
