3020 sakura trees Japan gave as a gift to the United States in 1912 to celebrate the nations and the friendship then growth. These trees were planted in Sakura Park in Manhattan and the famous coastline of the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC (see West Potomac Park), and the gift was renewed with another 3800 trees in 1965. The sakura trees continue to be a popular tourist attraction (and the theme of the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival) when they reach full bloom in early spring. Also, Balboa Park, Los Angeles 2000 sakura trees in bloom from mid to late March.

that video and, first off, thanks to C.I. for the transcription in the snapshot and for linking to the video. I really everyone who can stream that video needs to do so. Those stories in the video . .. they'll tear you apart. For anyone who hasn't read the snapshot yet today, C.I.'s emphasizing the plight of Iraqi refugees. And I'm assuming one reason is because the disgusting Andrew White is trying to get back in the news on the backs of Iraq's religious minorities.
Marcia: I agree and want to add, I'm a racial minority. I don't know why anyone would be offended for being called a religious minority -- as Andrew White attempts to insist they are -- but I really don't care. I don't think it's true but I don't care regardless. Ruth, you're a religious minority. Is the phrase offensive to you?
Ruth: Not at all. I am Jewish, a religious minority. I have always known that. It is not a secret. I know the Jewish Iraqi population is now predominately refugees but I cannot imagine any of them being offended by being called a religious minority. We know we are, Jews know this. That is why it was so easy to round us up and target us during the Holocaust. And if I could go futher, Andrew White is responsible for one of Baghdad's many churches. It is the only Anglican church. He cannot speak for all of Iraq's religious minorities, he does not even know them. He is someone who truly needs to learn to stop issuing orders and start listening.
Cedric: For me, I have this entire host of issues regarding Andrew White including not being able to get over the fact that this War Cheerleader who was cheerleading in the leadup to the illegal war got money from the US government, from the Defense Dept, in 2008. Tax payer money. US tax payer money went to him. Are we going to find out tomorrow that our money in 2008 also went to pay Ahmed Chalabi?
Trina: Yeah. I, yeah. I agree completely, Cedric. What were they thinking? As C.I. points out, the Christian community in Iraq has more ties to the Catholic Church. That's what you've got in Baghad and Mosul and all over. Andrew White? He's responisble for what is the Church of England which only had one church in all of Iraq. Why the heck was US tax payer money going to him? He knows nothing about the situation, he doesn't leave the Green Zone -- expect when visiting his family in England for months at a time each year -- because his church is in the Green Zone. He's a huckster and no American tax payer dollars should have ever gone to him.
Rebecca: I want to toss out something C.I. floated in the snapshot today. Using Latin America as an example, the horrors inflicted on them by the US and the US proxies, C.I. talked about how they were able to lie, the US government and the media, and get away with it but today reality is widely known and one reason is due to the fact that the refugees surfaced around the world and told the truth.
Betty: I agree with that absolutely. C.I. was specifically talking about the world church community and I can remember being a young girl and we would have people from, El Salvador, for example, visit us and explain what had happened. I never really knew of the disinformation campaign by the government and the media until the 90s when I was reading a book. And, for any who don't know, I'm talking about a Black church, in Georgia. And we had many, many refugees come through to speak to us. And that is why I know about the death squads the US government backed, armed, trained and funded and the torture that was used and how CIA agents would be present for the torture but not do the actual torture because that could get them prosecuted. So they farmed it out but supervised the torture.
Marcia: I'm up north, African-American church, and we did and do get the survivors from regimes coming to share their stories. To be Black in America, my opinion, means to trace back to slaves so for our churches, it is about this adversity, it is about government cruelty and government abuses. That's what slavery was, that's what the death squads in El Salvador were. So when you have, for example, Christians from El Salvador speaking, it is going to register with our churches. And I do agree that it is the pipeline for the realities and will be the pipeline for the realities about what's really taken place in Iraq.
Mike: Let me jump in. I'm Catholic. Boston. And, we always have visitors come through and we do hear stories of abuses and horrors and I think it's that way across the country.
Kat: Catholic to Catholic, I'll jump in. California, Bay Area, my whole life, and, yes, and, yes, especially with Latin America which is a region with a large number of Catholics. We had a constant source of information -- even during the disinformation from Reagan and the media -- about what was taking place. Trina, would it be the same in Boston? Back during the eighties? I know Mike's talking about now. But back then?
Trina: Yes, completely. From the entire region, which the US was attempting to destabilize by backing groups like the contras. In terms of El Salvador, I can remember the first time, in Church, that we heard about Sister Ita Ford, Sister Maura Clark, Sister Dorothy Kazel and layworker Jean Donovan being murdered December 2, 1980. And we actually had a group speaking, two or three, to us when the news had hit that the murderers were being paroled. That was like 18 years later. There is very much a social network in America's churches -- of all religions. And that's as true on the right as it is on the left
Stan: There was another point floated and I liked it as well. Not all right-wing churches were for the war, in this country, for the Iraq War. But a number were and it's so great that they, as much as centrist churches and left churches, will be part of getting the truth out about what was done in Iraq. Bully Boy Bush installed fundamentalist thugs and in doing so created the slaughter of Christians in Iraq. He's never going to overcome that with most people as these stories are heard over the next years.
Cedric: Am I jumping in on anyone?
Rebecca: That was me, clearing my throat, go ahead, Cedric.
Cedric: I have to say I agree with Stan. This is the system that is going to get the word out for future generations. And the reason is, so few care about Iraq today. Look around the country, you'll see it's true. But Christians, American Christians, faced with tales of slaughter, Christian slaughter? That's going to be discussed and addressed and some churches will put it into a historical context and more end-of-times-types will see it as a sign and it's going to go across right and left and just really saturate the culture. George W. Bush, alleged Christian man, unleased a slaughter on Christians in Iraq. That's not forgotten and it will be the takedown on his legacy.
Wally: Because while the so-called 'alternative' media will rush to forget and hitchike to other causes, this will not go away within the American Christian community.
Rebecca: Mike and Elaine both spoke the least and Mike spoke more recently than Elaine so I'll toss to her for a close.
Elaine: I think the Jews have a legacy and they pass it on. I believe Muslims do the same. And I believe Christians do as well. When any of those groups are targeted -- and I'm sure this is true for other religious groups -- the targeting is taken personally worldwide and it becomes part of the religion's narrative. Iraqi Christians were targeted and this is now folded into the larger struggles that Christians have gone through at other times. The same for Iraqi Jews and Iraqi Muslims -- who, of course, were also targeted.
Rebecca: Alright. That's the end of the roundtable. This is a rush transcript.
Here's C.I.

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori fielded questions about the ongoing, never-ending saga of the now deposed Bishop Charles E. Bennison and touched on sensitive issues of declining membership, abortion and TEC's relationship with the Anglican Communion, before some 250 aging Episcopalians, many of who expressed discomfort with the direction the national church is taking.
In Philadelphia's Episcopal cathedral on Sunday, a number of irate laity (clergy were not allowed to be present and the press was told they could not ask questions) asked why the church was still paying Bennison when he can't do his job. Jefferts Schori explained that Bishop Bennison is engaged in the legal process and that she is subject to the canons of the church.

Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh showed that overweight people who do not lose weight when they follow an exercise program are likely to suffer form low thyroid function.
Eating causes your blood sugar to rise; the pancreas reacts by releasing insulin into the blood, which drives sugar into working cells. If you gain fat weight, those cells fill up with fat, which blocks the insulin receptors causing blood sugar levels to rise higher. And the cycle accelerates; the pancreas continues to release insulin, which is not being absolved by the cells due to the added fat cells. Your appetite increases, you eat more, which causes the problem to continue to accelerate.
Exercise causes insulin levels to decrease in the blood. Therefore regular daily exercise keeps both your insulin and blood sugar levels in check. This is why regular exercise is so important for continued and sustainable weight loss.
There are some people who do exercise regularly but cant seem to lose weight. The University of Pittsburgh study may provide answer for this group. The researchers studied the effects of low thyroid function but normal levels of thyroid hormones on people. What they found was hypothyroidism will cause muscle to inadequately respond to insulin and rising blood sugar levels, making it next to impossible for these people to lose weight even with regular exercise.

It is not unusual to herald in a new era with calls of throw the rascals out Periodically this human cry has assailed the nations ears after discovery of a scandalous situation bringing investigative forces to bear. This can be tacked in social movements such as unionization, womens suffrage, and civil rights. Nor is this unusual in the halls of government for we have seen parties change names from Whigs to Republicans, new parties arise such as Populism with leaders sharing the dias from LaFollette, Eugene Debs, Huey P. Long, and Harold Stassen. But all have been a result of a lack of candor by the regime in office. Usually such movements have been ingnitied by a sense of outrage for the ills brought to bear against an identifiable portion of our country. However, in the case of AIG and CitiBank on the teats of the American Treasury bailout, we hear the outrage from both sides of the aisle, from left and from right, from the and the
What the financial institutions do not realize that this is like no revolt they have seen before, and business as usual will not return once the villagers have snuffed out their torches and returned home. We have seen the honchos of corporate america view the billions of monies from the U.S. governement as a temporary infusion of money without any further outside involvement in the daily decisions of running a business. What they do not understand, that the crisis that brought us to this cataclysmic precipice did not affect only one group that makes up the United States. It affected us all, big and small, celeb or unknown and shook this nation to the roots of its foundations. The cat is out of the bag, and questions concerning governments involvement in business, the rights or limitations of business to operate, even the purpose of business have been brought into the question. There are decisions that we must take the time and energy to look at, debate, and decide in determing what type of government, if any, we will have.
AIG and CitiBank may,due to their corporate structure, still be spearheaded by the mentality that got us into this crisis in the first place, ignoresa mentality that even flaunts their noblesse oblige in front of the national media with their large bonuses, corporate toys and parties, and corporate redecoratingquite oblivious to the real worldwith an attitude toward business as usual. But this is not business as usual situtation with the American taxpayer owning 39% to 80% of these companies, corporate America should not expect that their largest stockholders will remain silent partners. It is not enough to consider how much money you can make, without considering if the decisions of corporate america is in the interest of the common/public good.
Ladies and Gentlemen of Corporate America, Elivis Has Left The Building, and its time that your plate glass towers reflect that reality and not the clouds in the skies. Its a new day, a new challenge, and a new mindset. Lets hope Corporate America can become a substantive proponent in that change, rather than an opponent.

The Vancouver Whitecaps will join Major League Soccer for the 2011 season, it was confirmed today, in what may be the worst-kept secret in Lower Mainland sports circles. MLS commissioner Don Garber made the announcement, as the Whitecaps prepare to move from venerable Swangard Stadium in Burnaby to a renovated BC Place Stadium. The venue there is to undergo $365 million worth of improvements before the new MLS team takes to the field, improvements that will include a retractable roof.

South Carolina's GOP battle for the 2010 gubernatorial nomination has only just begun (only one candidate has formally announced) and polls show a wide open race. Third District Rep. Gresham Barrett announced earlier this month he would seek the job, and a recent poll shows that while he isn't recognized as well as two of his potential competitors, he is in a tight race with Attorney General Henry McMaster and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer.

Robin is always keen to remind us how status-seeking humans are, and the above quote is a gem in that regard. Laced through it are the claims that art is valuable, that patrons are vital to art, and yet that these patrons should be disdained - especially compared with the poor-but-high-status artist.
This can be expanded into a general test for detecting self-serving status-seeking. It isn’t enough to show that people are attracted to high status professions (people’s opinions of status varies, and they may have decided that certain professions are worthwhile to the world, and thus accorded them higher status). It isn’t even enough to note that people’s everyday behavior is status seeking – unless we can estimate the marginal difficulties in making a “worthwhile” profession more worthy, versus the marginal difficulties in increasing status.
However Huxley’s quote gives us a way of controlling these variables. If a profession is deemed worthwhile to the world, then those who enable it, or fund it, are equally worthwhile. If someone would accord their own work a high status but disdains patrons/funding bodies/stockholders, then their own status seeking is plain to see.

Last week I posted that neuropathologist Mark Cohen testified for the defense in a high-profile child death case where the a father is accused of causing the death of his son. The boy's mother is already serving time for her role in the child's death. Cohen, on faculty at Case Western in Cleveland, testified for the defense in the state of Colorado's case against Alex Midyette, whose son was found to have multiple broken bones at the time of his death. The local news channel reports that Mr. Midyette (pictured entering the courtroom with his lawyers) declined to testify in his trial today. Dr. Cohen stated that the 11-week-old infant suffered from methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase deficiency, an autosomal recessive disorder of folate metabolism causing elevated plasma homocysteine levels. Patients with this rare disease suffer from neurologic developmental delay, and exhibit abnormalities of CNS myelination. In the article I read on the topic (see reference), no mention is made of skeletal abnormalities. So, I am not sure how one would explain the multiple broken bones in this case by invoking this metabolic disease. In any case, we await the verdict.

Recent research shows that our moods are far more strongly influenced by those around us than we tend to think. Not only that, we are also beholden to the moods of friends of friends, and of friends of friends of friends - people three degrees of separation away from us who we have never met, but whose disposition can pass through our social network like a virus.
Indeed, it is becoming clear that a whole range of phenomena are transmitted through networks of friends in ways that are not entirely understood: happiness and depression, obesity, drinking and smoking habits, ill-health, the inclination to turn out and vote in elections, a taste for certain music or food, a preference for online privacy, even the tendency to attempt or think about suicide. They ripple through networks like pebbles thrown into a pond, says Nicholas Christakis, a medical sociologist at Harvard Medical School in Boston, who has pioneered much of the new work.
At first sight, the idea that we can catch the moods, habits and state of health not only of those around us, but also those we do not even know seems alarming. It implies that rather than being in charge of where we are going in life, we are little more than back-seat drivers, since most social influence operates at a subconscious level.

Ramzee Robinson taunted a Green Bay receiver and got flagged by the officials. Detroit finished the day 0-16, and the worst team in NFL history. Ramzee Robinson getting flagged for taunting should be on the cover of the 2008 Detroit Lions commemorative dvd, right? At least his deed has been commemorated at Wikipedia.
2. Most interesting sentence I read today: "It does sometimes seem to me that many of this world's problems, stem from our using powers that aren't appropriate to seventy-year-olds." (i.e., things like nuclear bombs could only have been designed by people borrowing knowledge from those who had come before - - you couldn't possibly discover, by yourself, all of the science necessary to create such technology in a human lifespan).

A long overdue follow-up to The Death of the Middle Class, Part One.
If present trends continue, what will America look like in the future? The answer is staring us in the face on our southern border: Anglo-America will become Latin America. All of the same demographic groups are on the chessboard, and we will likely see similar results.
The Bush family is planning ahead. They have extensive business dealings with and Jeb has actually married into the corrupt white elite of Mexico. For it seems that the Latin American model is inevitable for America. And in that model, who you know and are related to is most important.
Observant students of history will consider Barack Obama not only the first African-American president, but also the first Latin-American president. His election on meaningless slogans directly taken from Latin American political campaigns (Yes we can) is an indicator of the civic health of our Republic.
I recently read an essay by a French intellectual of the New Right in Europe. In this essay, he argues that nationalism is ironically, at its core, individualistic. By drawing a big fence around a sufficiently large group (the nation), loyalties shift from specific people (family, close kin, co-religionists, etc) to the abstraction of the nation. Abstractions are less demanding and messy than people. Give the government 50% of your earnings and let them take care of your parents, educate your children, etc. Socialism, when it has functioned at all, has always been a national sort of socialism. Ironically, the New Right is defending nationalism as a necessary precondition for socialism, a political given in the European system. I thank God my ancestors moved to America!
It seems to be a media fantasy that the new internationalism will lead to a multicultural utopia of atomized individuals with identities as multifaceted as their iPod playlists. This is really just tripe of course, to finish the decapitalization of Western Civilization.
Throughout all of history, proximity of diverse groups of people increases intolerance. This is why silly white liberals from lily-white rural Vermont have such silly socialist ideas about how people ought to get along. When many rural Vermonters dont even have locks on their doors, they assume that everyone else must be just as honest and well-intended as they are, and any deviation from that system (such as the need for locks and firearms for self-defense) must be pathological.
If a multicultural future is inevitable, we must plan for this reality with facts, not fantasy.
First, the future will likely not have a middle class. Achieving a income level will no longer be formulaic and predictable. Most will be in a sort of tolerable poverty provided by plentiful material goods and cheap, crude mass entertainment (e.g. Wal-Mart and American Idol respectively are precursors to the future). If you wish to be middle class, you had best set your sights on filthy rich. The iron law of wealth distribution is returning, and the top 20% will own 80% of the wealth, likely more. It will be a mad scramble against global competition and regression to the mean (i.e. if youre above-average at something, odds are your children will be closer to the average) to stay in that 20%.
So the struggle will be one of continuous improvement of ones progeny. I want my children and grandchildren to be more moral, more intelligent and more beautiful/healthy than myself.
The masses will be degenerate, stupid and fat. Our new elite will be a new caste of the moral, literate and fit, based on the new capital of good genetics, good education and a more rugged morality better able to delay gratification. Delayed gratification, or low time preference, correlates with intelligence but may actually be the driving factor of many success stories: people who save money instead of spending it do better financially; people who control their eating habits are more attractive and live longer than those who do not.
Acquiring and keeping capital will mean high resistance to marketing messages. If your kids eat advertised junk food and become obese, they will not be able to attract a high-quality mate, decreasing your familys genetic capital. If your little girls become materialist , as explicitly encouraged by advertisements to on this or that plastic crap from China, they will drain your familys monetary capital to nothing within one generation.
A friend of mine has described a microevolutionary trend called Survival of the Prettiest. He said he noticed that pictures of people considered beautiful just 100 years ago look rather plain compared to the beauty we see all of the time now. If you go into any ultra-high-end suburb (above the striving middle class range of homes), he observed, you will see fit, pretty mothers pushing around strollers; my friend comments that the men are as uniform in their earning power as the women are in their beauty.
While there has always been a correlation between beauty, health and IQ (beauty is basically symmetry of proportions, which indicates good genetics), this is now in overdrive as the cutthroat nature of modern capitalism increasingly gives males with the practical intelligence to earn money all of the cards in picking mates. Long gone are the days when the pretty cheerleader could marry the cute but average jock and live comfortably ever after as long as her husband joined the union and worked hard for a high-paying manufacturer. Now most women like that would be foolish not to go to the best college they could get into and pick from a pool of mates more able to provide a middle class standard of living. Of course, in the second generation, these smart-male, pretty-female pairings tend to produce children who are both smart and pretty, which further enhances the correlation.
But this is not a Catch-22. If your family is not wealthy, it means you lack monetary capital. But monetary capital is itself just the end result of moral and genetic capital. Thanks to the Internet, people merely poor in monetary capital can still build up moral capital. Your children can receive an education second-to-none, for free. Or you can waste your time. Ironically, it is the very cheap abundance of Wal-mart and the Internet that will first increase then permanently decrease class mobility.
At the top will be people with all three forms of capital, some of whom will fritter it away. At the bottom will be the deliberately ignorant, people who could read, for free, all of the great works of our civilization but choose to spend hours on Youtube. And occasionally there will be that poor family out there, doing their best to improve themselves with the vast free resources available, akin to the children of the pioneers who became literate by reading their King James Bible by candlelight when the days chores were finished.
Second, there are mass opportunities as the capital stock of Western Civilization is redistributed. If we hope to rebuild it one day, we need to recapture as much of it as we can.
Some may have been shocked by my description of the future elite as moral, for our current elite is anything but moral. How will immoral elites be replaced with moral elites (and I would add- possibly a Christian elite)?
The strategy pursued by the current elite is fundamentally suicidal. Believing in nothing, they seek stimulation above all else and ultimately death. This elite is sterile, barely having children. And they will pass away. Notice how easily non-Western elites who still cling to traditional notions of morality and thrift (e.g. the top 1% of Pakistanis, Indians, etc who move here as highly skilled immigrants) are able to displace our elites in professions such as medicine and academia. Imagine how much more effectively the vanguard of homeschooled children, detached from the toxic popular culture but, unlike Third World immigrants, still possessing the inner spark of Western Civilization, will take assets and power from the childless, amoral elite that currently runs the country.
I believe that a systemic inculcation of the children of the saving remnant of this nation with Biblical values of thrift, hard work and honesty will result in the inevitable distribution of capital from unworthy hands (our current elite) to our hands. I have experienced this myself. The second-largest asset I own came to me at a bargain price because of someones divorce. One persons inability to delay gratification led to a distribution of capital from immoral hands to mine. And if the same thing will happen to me if I am not vigilant.
Look around this society, or take a walk in a mall, and just look at what you see. There are so many people who are fundamentally unemployable in any job that it must become obvious that the moral capital account of our Christian past, on which weve been coasting for two to three generations at least, is rapidly being depleted and will soon report Insufficient Funds.
As massive amounts of capital are distributed from Baby Boomers to their children, the latters inability to delay gratification will result in massive bargain sales of important assets to those with the simple patience to avoid debt, save cash, work hard and stick together. In the long run, Dave Ramsey, in teaching Christians these skills, may have more impact on the future than Billy Graham (I just wish Dave would stop advising people to buy stocks when dividend yields are below historical averages).
If the destruction of our country continues (which really means the dissociation of the nation from its government), we must see ourselves less as generic Americans and more as a self-conscious elite minority in a multicultural society. All over our country, little groups prosper because they have a common faith and stick together. The two wealthiest ethnic groups, according to The Millionaire Next Door, are the Chinese and Russians. Other rich minorities youve probably never heard described as such include Armenians, Syrian Jews, Lebanese and Greeks. They succeed through niche businesses, cooperation and explicit preference for doing business with each other.
If the American nation is no longer to be, then we must decide the boundaries of a new group. Homeschooling and/or Christian-schooling Protestant Christians will be their own minority elite in the new polyglot America. And given the high achievements of our ancestors and the high calling of our faith, we should not be content with running convenience stores (the niche of Pakistanis) or hotels (the niche of high-caste Indians). We ultimately must seek to control the means of influence itself: a large capital base at least sufficient to control major media and thus politics. In the moments when I am most postmillenial, I would argue the ideal of the unity of all capital in Christian hands.
Before we can get there, though, many Christians will have to let go of their pietist contempt for wealth and empire-building. Wealth is nothing more than control of Gods Creation, which was declared good by God Himself. Man makes it an idol, but there is nothing fundamentally evil about lumber, land or oil. Someone will own our country after the capital of the current decadent elite is redistributed through the iron laws of economics. If not us, who?
There is a certain sanity in this acknowledgment, of coming to grips with reality. While we must not yet give up on our country, it is nice to know there is still a strategy if our depreciating returns in convincing our fellow Americans to wake up are unsuccessful. They may not wake up because they are already dead, anesthetized by Grand Theft Auto and Guitar Hero.
The challenges will be immense, ironically in proportion to success. The lure of frivolity and materialism is very hard to resist, especially if our group can attain control of significant amounts of capital, but the lessons of the past should make us realize that there is nothing inherently in us that makes us worthy of our civilization (as Sam Francis said, European peoples are a necessary but not sufficient ingredient for Western Civilization). The virtues of the past must be diligently rebuilt with each generation, lest the base of the capital be itself eroded. The more material wealth and influence we attain, the harder we must be in teaching the next generation the values that enable the wealth. In the long-term, if proper Christian doctrine is not instilled in your grandchildren, they may feel guilty about inherited wealth and seeking to please their peers, give much of it away to causes totally at odds with the family interest (I am thinking specifically here of the great man Henry Ford, whose wealth now funds a foundation run by alien Marxists).
I would argue that common religion and values are not enough, that most successful groups contain a commonality of both physical descent and religion. But on a practical level, there is no need to argue about this, for if I am right about this it will be true on the ground anyway.
I hope my readers do not find this post too depressing, as it is an acknowledgment that reaping follows sowing. It is the West that voluntarily gave up its faith, surrendered its authority and leadership and is now allowing itself to be invaded and destroyed. Even at this late hour, it is only for lack of will that we are where we are. But as Christians, we ought to realize that it is the inside that counts, and while still strong on the outside, the corpse of the West is in a whitewashed tomb.
Absent a miracle that looks less and less likely, rebuilding our civilization may take as long or longer than the time it took to destroy it. I would date that rot back to the Enlightenment, the anti-Biblical notions of equality and that lead to the horrors of the French Revolution and later the greatest crimes in the history of humanity under Stalin and Mao. So thats about 300 years or so by my count*. But it is a good time to be alive, as the opportunities for greatness, for acquiring wealth and doing good may be greater than at any time in history. The essence of life while we are still on this Earth is to struggle for what you love and love the struggle.
*Immigration itself is a highly assymterical act. When someone immigrates to the US, that is not considered an immoral or aggressive act. However, to un-immigrate someone, i.e. make them go home or to their parents or grandparents home, is considered to be a very aggressive act. The flabby mindset of most Americans would be horrified at such a proposal, but this is exactly what has to happen eventually to claim any part of our nation back for our children**; most nations of Europe have done this with alien groups historically, so its not unprecedented. But it will take a long time for that kind of mental toughness to redevelop. I would argue that when someone takes an action that requires an aggressive or immoral act to reverse and that act encroaches on the rights of others, then that action is itself aggressive and immoral.
** It is possible we have irreversibly entered an era of multiculturalism, where traditional nation-states are obsolete. I can accept this, and this highlights the need even more to be a self-conscious minority. However, I do note a great inconsistency in the application of this principle. Its always a country like the USA, or the Netherlands, or Sweden that is . Theres never any talk that China maybe is obsolete, that Chinese people need to stop being medieval and let all of Africa immigrate into their country. Theres never any criticism of Saudi Arabia for being explicitly Muslim and Arabic. Its always the Christian, European nations that are the target of this, and so I reject this logic until it is at least equally applied to all groups.

The writer of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button," "Forrest Gump" and "The Horse Whisperer" has sued his investment manager after suffering "massive losses" as a result of the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme.
In a lawsuit filed in L.A. County Superior Court, Eric Roth claims his "trusted investment manager," Stanley Chais, was responsible for managing hundreds of millions of dollars from various clients. The suit claims Chais "simply handed over the entirety of these funds to BMIS [Maddoff's company], all the while collecting enormous fees for his so-called 'management' of these investments."
Roth, who was was just nominated for a Golden Globe for "Benjamin Button," said earlier this week he lost all his retirement money, telling the L.A. Times, "I'm the biggest sucker that ever walked the face of the Earth."
In the suit, Roth blasts Chais for failing to diversify the investments and failing to heed warning signs that it was all too good to be true.
Roth is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.

This is the second study by a team of researchers at Cornell Medical Center in New York which points to a possible effect on sperm quality.
SSRIs taken by millions of men to alleviate depression may affect their fertility, say US scientists.
New Scientist magazine reported that a small group of healthy men were given paroxetine an antidepressant for four weeks and had significantly higher levels of sperm DNA damage. These men may not have serious problems becoming a father. (Think of the potential for damage to unborn.-editors comment)
Paroxetine, sold as Seroxat or Paxil, is one of the most commonly prescribed antidepressants in the UK. They recruited 35 healthy volunteers who provided sperm samples before and during paroxetine treatment.
Under the microscope, there appeared to be not much difference between the and samples, with the shape and movement of sperm apparently normal in both samples.
However, tests on DNA fragmentation produced a different result.
Some sperm with DNA problems can be found in every sample, and 13.8% of sperm cells in those produced before treatment were found to be fragmented. This marker elevated four week mark, this had risen to 30.3%.
Studies have found that couples where the mans sperm has higher levels of DNA damage produce fewer embryos, and their embryos are less likely to implant successfully in the womb.
Antidepressants are powerful drugs, so in a sense it is no surprise that research is discovering more about their impact on the body.
This damage to the DNA may also effect a mother who takes SSRIIs and then no one has studied the effects on the embryonic tissues to my knowledge.-editors note
Dr Andrew McCulloch, of the Mental Health Foundation, said: Most medications carry some level of risk, and antidepressants are no different.
They are powerful drugs, so in a sense it is no surprise that research is discovering more about their impact on the body.
More investment is needed in other mental health treatments such as talking therapies and exercise therapy. (Add homeopathy, neuroemotional kinessiology, s note)

Just got done watching Loni Love on Comedy Central and the thing that really stuck out for me was her closing line. It's better to eat soup with someone you love than steak with someone you hate.
Aww shucks, that just sums it up, doesn't it?
I know it's cheesy, but life ain't pretty and yeah many of us are poor. Love is the only thing money can't buy. Oh it'll give you a better shot at it, and more opportunities to look pretty and make you desirable to others. But love, real love, true love, can't be faked and it can't be bought. She might have married you for the money and put up with you out of compassion(and hope of a big payoff)but you can't make someone love you.
Would I rather be poor and in love or rich and out of love? I don't know ask me again later, cause I only have experience with one of these scenarios. Let me get rich and test out the other, then we'll talk again.
I love love, but maybe it's not the only thing. I've spent a lot of my life in love and now I'm not. It's a strange thing. Love is the drug for me, I wonder how some people have only been in love once. I'm like how is thatpossible? Have I just been extremely lucky and now my luck'srun out.Am I just tired and not looking? Is love around every corner if we butsearch to find it?
Oh it is a day ofquestions.. Questions andno answers, as usual I started out talking about one thing and tricked myself into thinking there was a point. No worries... chin up. When all else fails I've stillgot something to consider, let my mind chew on it for awhile.

complaint could be sent to the attorney general for criminal prosecution.
"We won't tolerate this kind of activity," said department spokesman Bill Hirschen. "It's a crime to practice medicine without a license."
The Health Department report describes the patient as 30 years old.
In its public response, Beth Israel apologized to her husband.
This is what happened, according to the Health Department investigation:
The salesman tried for a month to sell his VersaPoint system to Beth Israel's gynecologists. The equipment enlarges the uterus with saline so doctors can see a tumor, then dissolves it with an electric probe. Myers said it was safer than the old method, which used glycine and less sophisticated equipment.
Senior doctors told Myers to go through a review process before taking the machine into an operating room.
But Myers told Klinger he had permission to use his equipment in the hospital's Philips Ambulatory Care Center, and Klinger told state officials he believed him.
At the doctor's invitation, Myers put on hospital scrubs and operated the equipment controls because the operating room nurses said they hadn't been trained to use it.
But the doctors couldn't see the tumor and continued to pump the patient with saline. Her abdomen bloated, and a nurse warned the doctors several times that the saline wasn't circulating back out of her body.
Too much saline absorbed in the body causes a chemical imbalance that can trigger a heart attack.
"All right already, I heard you," Klinger said, but he failed to stop the procedure.
Investigators later determined one of the surgeons had closed an output valve, trapping the fluid in the woman's body.
After the operation, her blood pressure plummeted, her breathing slowed and she suffered a heart attack.
Myers refused to cooperate with the inquiry but was permitted to sell equipment at the hospital until last month, said Beth Israel spokesman Jim Mandler. He did not say why it took so long to bar Myers.
Susan Odenthal, spokeswoman for Ethicon, denied that Myers was at the controls. She said he told a supervisor about the state investigation but that the company did not respond.
FEW RULES REGULATE OUTSIDERS
When can a salesman be in the operating room?
The New York State Education Department says it's a crime for a salesperson or anyone without a medical license to practice medicine inside or outside an operating room.
Neither the state Health Department nor the state's hospital code addresses when a salesman is allowed inside an operating room, but state officials say they often are let in to observe.
Nothing in the state hospital code requires a hospital to get signed consent from a patient before an outsider is let into an operating room, although state health officials say patients have a right to know what's going on during their operation.
