Bally celebrates Independence Day with reduced hours at the South Loop and Loop clubs. The South Loop club is closing at 6:00pm on Friday and 2:00pm on Saturday, with regular hours for Sunday. The Loop club posted signs announcing they’re only open until 3:00pm on Friday, and will be closed on Saturday. Um, somebody should tell the sign maker that the Loop club is always closed on Saturday. The Loop club was also distributing flyers for the IAHV Yogathon on Sunday. His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will be holding a special session. If H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is a Bally member, we’ll eat our yoga mat.
Enjoy your workout.

Pawel Szczesny at Freelancing Science has a post considering models of open science, and how best to encourage it. For one thing, he says, it would be helpful to test various models outside the scientific arena: "Principles of Open Source software did not prove to be useful in open drug development. ... Crowdsourcing will not advance quantum physics," he writes. "Open Science in its fullest form is not an issue that scientists can truly solve by themselves."
In a post he advises readers to "take with a pinch of salt," Neil Saunders has a post on social bookmarking options offered on journal websites. PLoS and BioMed Central clearly get it, he says, but a snapshot of the bookmarks available at Nature (limited to Connotea) leaves Saunders asking, "So NPG: is it 'we promote sharing' or 'we promote sharing so long as you use our service.

Many people are in need of custom fit foot orthotics to help support the feet and realign them to a natural, or neutral position. This helps to relieve unnatural strain and stress on not only the many joints of the feet, but also the ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.
Unfortunately, custom fit orthotics can be extremely expensive. If you are one of those suffering from ailments such as over pronation, heel spur pain, or even if you just have a job or participate in activities that place excess stress on your feet, you are a prime candidate for foot orthotics.
Many doctors will recommend custom fit orthotics for people in order to realign the feet to correct obvious imbalances that lead to many painful symptoms. But the cost of those orthotics can be out of reach of the average person.
Now, however, there is a solution to custom fit orthotics that almost anyone can afford; the Spenco Orthotic Arch Support Insoles. Priced at just $29.99 at DirectInsoles.com, you can now realize the healing power of a custom fit orthotic without the custom price.

The Orthotic Arch Support Insoles can be used in any athletic or training shoe that has a removable liner, as the custom insole replaces the standard liner to provide increased shock absorption and help prevent over pronation. The Stability Cradle offers advanced arch support total stability and comfort.
Some of the critical features of the Orthotic Arch Support Insoles includes a low-friction antimicrobial top cloth that minimizes blisters as well as controlling odor.
The best part about the Spenco Orthotic Arch Support Insoles is that it has an optional heat molding capability to provide maximum support along with a customized fit. Simply trim your Orthotic Arch Support Insoles to fit in your shoes of choice, preheat your oven to 185 degrees F (90 degrees C) and place the insoles in the oven for two minutes. Then you quickly put the insoles in your shoes and, while wearing socks, put on your shoes, tighten the laces and wear for at least 10 minutes in order to mold your insoles for optimal support.

Your skin is expected to be not only healthy, but also lovely to behold, comfortable to live in, and a pleasure to touch. But, if you're like most people with dry and sensitive skin, you are probably frustrated.
Itching, taut or dry skin will age at an alarming rate. Although the environmental factor that cause dry skin are very well known (Cold, Heat, Dry weather), other factors like poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption, not sufficient water intake and smoke will also contribute largely to this condition.
Easily identifiable as white flakes, or as skin that will be marked by running a fingernail on it, dry skin should tell you to take action immediately to moisturize it.
The benefits of dry skin care products are instantly visible, and one even gets a “quenching” feeling during the application of a cream or a lotion for this purpose, but what to if you ever find away from your favorite moisturizing lotion can really help you from an unexpected dry skin episode. First, look around you. Many plants can help you recover, and even protect your skin from further dry skin damage; Aloe Vera, for example, can be directly applied on your skin in an emergency and even avocado or oatmeal can be a life saver.
For people with a chronic dry skin condition:
Dry skin is a common problem, especially in cool weather when hot furnaces are turned on and the air is dry. Young and old, infants and adults, millions of people suffer with dry and sensitive skin. It may be you or your spouse, your children, your parents, or even a friend. At highest risk are babies, seniors, diabetics, frequent hand washers, eczema prone people, atopics, psoriatics, and people on water pills, acne meds, or wrinkle creams. These people usually suffer with dry and extra sensitive skin.
If you examine 100 dry and sensitive skin patients you’ll see one common factor: A fragile skin barrier. If you want to control your dry and sensitive skin for life, you must understand your skin barrier.
If you have dry skin and you neglect your skin barrier, you will have problems forever. The truth is, your skin barrier needs daily care, but ironically, most dry and sensitive people are unaware of their skin barrier organ. A well-tuned skin barrier will keep body water inside and will prevent allergens and microbes from entering your body. The "bricks" are the corneocyte skin cells. The "mortar," situated between skin cells, is made of three lipid-oils: Free fatty acids, ceramide, and cholesterol. For normal skin barrier functioning to occur, the three lipids must be "organized" into precise layers called "lipid bilayers.
